Historical Survey

This aim of this project is to document all the listed buildings in Bourne, and, in addition, to document many old buildings which are not listed but are historic and worthy of note.  The recording of listed building data has been previously carried out many years ago by the Civic Society, but the new survey will include detail, and buildings, not previously covered. Each owner of the building will receive a notification from the Society giving the details that we have been able to ascertain, this will also include any tree preservation orders that may be in place.

The survey will be carried out by members, on a street by street basis, in the near future, details of the survey will be made available to Bourne Town Council and South Kesteven District Council, and the results of this may influence the current town conservation area.

We are very lucky to have a town as beautiful as Bourne, and we must do all that we can, to keep its’ history alive. We realise that we live in a different era now, however, that is no reason to ride roughshod over the history and buildings of past years, it is buildings of historic interest that give the town its’ character, A quick look around the Market Place, will show you how commercialism is threatening to overtake pride in our town.

Whilst the Society appreciates the rights of individual owners, listed buildings carry  a responsibility, and owning one is a privilege, it is the aim of Bourne Preservation Society to support and encourage good management of the history of our town, whether that be buildings, conservation, or customs, and whether in public, or private, ownership.
