Come along and hear of the history behind one of Bourne’s oldest shops
Here we go again (Bourne Town Council)
At a council meeting on Tuesday 20th July, Cllr. Brian Fines, sought to delay, or derail, the project by proposing that the Town Council withdraw from bipartisan talks on the project. When asked by another councillor how this could help the project, no reasonable answer could be provided, therefore we can only conclude that this move is designed to slow the process of signing over the chapel to the Trust. This proposal will have to be ratified by full council on 31st August. These councillors presided over the neglect of this building, one of Bourne’s oldest and finest, whilst the legal owners of it, surely now they can at least show willing towards saving this fine building. We have yet to talk to any council, or any official body, who are not incredulous of the behaviour of our town council over this project.
Architectural Assistance
We now have the services of an architect to assist us in the preparation of our grant application to the Architectural Heritage Fund. Carl Andrews from a practice in Worksop will be assisting us , and we are very grateful to Carl and his company for their support.
Legal Assistance
We are also very pleased to be able to announce that we have obtained the services of Langleys Solicitors from their Lincoln office, who will be assisting us in the negotiation of our 99 year lease with Bourne Town Council. We are very grateful to Langleys, and Mr Peter Horner, for their assistance.
Volunteers Required
We have approval from Bourne Town Council to clear the 15 foot area around the chapel building in order to restore the free space required to protect the buildings foundations, this need is identified in the original building plan, of which we have a copy.
Please click here to visit our new page which gives details of the work to be carried out and the help that we are asking you to provide.
Town Centre Planters
We have adopted the two planters in West Street and these will now be maintained throughout the year by the society, if you could help by joining the rota for this, it would be much appreciated. The more people on the rota, the less often each person is required to do it. The planters will need watering every two days in Summer, little else is required. Please contact us using the details on this site, or your usual contact.
Holbeach Chapel Group
We have made contact with the group who are setting up to restore the Holbeach cemetery chapel, and met with them on May 14th. As we are on parallel paths, this was a beneficial meeting for both parties, and we were able to provide guidance and help to them as they find their way into forming their Trust.
