 Preservation Society
We are now in our twentieth week of occasional working afternoons clearing shrub and brickwork.. Shrubbery and trees can have a damaging impact on foundations, and, as this area has over time been allowed to be populated with many trees and shrubs, we will now remove them, having obtained written permission from Bourne Town Council, and agreement with the head groundsman at the cemetery.
Our first action was to remove ivy which was growing in several areas, over windows and into guttering, as well as on walls in general,, we have now started to clear brick walling, and this week have shifted enough brickwork to fill half of a full size skip
There is a lot of work to be done and this will be managed by the Society, under the supervision of the head groundsman, volunteers are covered by the insurance of the Town Council, and all volunteers are required to register with the Society member in charge on the day, and also to wear a hard hat provided by us, and to use only tools and equipment provided by the cemetery staff. Trees will not be removed by us at this point, but branches may be removed where they are affecting the building. The work you undertake can be as light, or as heavy, as you are confident to carry out in a safe manner.
Look at the ‘Work Schedule’ page to find the calendar of dates for the current month when work can be carried out, this will be updated weekly. Simply come along with your gardening gloves. For further information., use the contact data on this website.
All the help you can provide will be an extremely useful contribution to the chapel project, and will also count in asset value to the Society, when application for funding is made for the main project, so please help us whenever you can.
Following completion of this work, the beauty of this building will be exposed for all to see, as originally intended 156 years ago.

Each day we have worked on the site, we have had the support of at least four society members, this is excellent support, and I hope that more will volunteer as the project moves forward, I can assure you it is more laugh than work, but if you are not being paid, then, something has to make it worthwhile!

Find the extra pages showing each days work on site. Under the tabs ‘Projects’ then ‘Project Clearup’
