We have now completed over 160 hours, working afternoons clearing shrub and brickwork.. Shrubbery and trees can have a damaging impact on foundations, and, as this area has over time been allowed to be populated with many trees and shrubs, we will now remove them, having obtained written permission from Bourne Town Council, and agreement with the head groundsman at the cemetery.
Our first action was to remove ivy which was growing in several areas, over windows and into guttering, as well as on walls in general,, we have now started to clear brick walling, and this week have shifted enough brickwork to fill half of a full size skip
A lot of work has been done and this was managed by the Society, under the supervision of the head groundsman, volunteers were covered by the insurance of the Town Council, and all volunteers were required to register with the Society member in charge on the day, and also to wear a hard hat provided by us, and to use only tools and equipment provided by the cemetery staff. Trees will not be removed by us at this point, but branches may be removed where they are affecting the building. The work undertaken ranged from very light to reasonably heavy, and was carried out in a safe manner.
All the help provided will be an extremely useful contribution to the chapel project, and will also count in asset value to the Society, when application for funding is made for the main project, so please help us whenever you can.
Following completion of this work, the beauty of this building will be exposed for all to see, as originally intended 156 years ago.

Each session we carried out on the site, had the support of up to four society members, this was excellent support, and I thank all those who gave their time so effectively to the project.,
Work in progress from 10th May until the 5th October 2010
Current status at 1st September 2010
