As a preservation society, we embrace the heritage of Bourne and the surrounding villages, by working to secure as many of the historic buildings as is possible, by direct and indirect involvement, also providing conservation service to the population and authorities in Bourne.

The next sessions of ground clearance at the chapel will be Tuesday 27th and Friday 30th July.

If you are willing to help, work starts at the chapel at 1.30pm, and will finish at 3.45pm. You can give an hour of your time, or you can stay for the full period of just over 2 hours. We always have an enjoyable time, and the work you do, can be as light or as heavy as you are able and willing to do. This week we have completed work, as far as we are able currently, at the south end, and have mover our attention to the shrubs and ground clearance of ivy at the north end.. See the update on this week’s work on the project pages.

Bourne Preservation Trust

We have now been incorporated as BOURNE PRESERVATION TRUST, this is a private limited company, limited by guarantee, which will soon be registered as a charity. We now have to prepare our application to the Charities Commission as the next phase of our plans.

We plan to make our application for Options Appraisal funding in the November round of Architectural Heritage Fund applications.

Our members evening this month was both informative and entertaining. Alan Mutton, presented useful tax and pension information as a representative of ‘TOP’ (TaxHelp for Older People) and finished off the evening with a presentation on his other role as a football referee, which was both interesting and entertaining. It was an excellent night, only spoilt by a poor attendance.. If you would like further information on then help and advice obtainable from TOP, click here to go to their website.

Read the story about Edward Browning, architect of the cemetery chapel, written for us by renowned Bourne historian, Rex Needle.

Following an appeal by the Town Council for organisations and businesses to adopt a town centre planter, Bourne Preservation Society have adopted the two planters in West Street. One is located at the entrance to the Baptist Church, and the other slightly further down at the jewellers shop. These planters will be maintained  throughout the year by our members

We don’t just talk about supporting our town, we act as well.
